AWB has a program called Page to Stage that takes place over several months at Inglis. Neill Hartley from AWB led the program.

The program focuses on empowering individuals to explore their creativity through an immersive and collaborative performing arts production. The program aims to foster a deep connection between the performers and their material making the presentations authentic, collaborative, and impactful.

This year’s program was entitled “Page to Stage: Director’s Cut: One Act Play Festival” Participants got to write, stage, and direct their own one act play. The goal of the program was to encourage the participants to find their own voice in a creative process, and to have full ownership of the work that they created.

The participants took steps to write their own plays to be successful. They were given a series of prompts that professional playwrights use to create a play. The next was having them refine their work, continue to flesh out their concepts until they could have a play to be presented to the public.

Neill brought Akeem Davis, an accomplished Philadelphia actor and director as a guest consultant that helped guide the participants in their work,

The participants learned many skills in the program. They learned creative writing, how a play is constructed and how a professional theatre director works. They learned how to interact with others and how to bring the best out in their peers. Participants learned how a theatre production is brought to life, and what it is like to perform in front of a live audience.

AWB relies on volunteers.

The first Sunday of every month volunteers assist our actors at workshops as they learn their lines and rehearse their parts. Our most dedicated volunteers support our actors throughout the year and are a part of the yearly performance. There are opportunities for people who want a creative outlet through set design, props and costume development. Great for early teens, adults and seniors!
